We require a creative and tech savvy Marketing Manager to join our successful and fast growing startup. In short, you’ll be responsible for the management and promotion of our existing stable of online products. You’ll be an expert at communication and persuasion – and understand the best way to reach our various target markets. You’ll be able to plan attention grabbing campaigns, execute them to budget and measure their results. You’ll also be the voice of the customer and understand their various needs, and use this to inform the future direction of product and marketing decisions.

This isn’t a regular job. Since we’re still a start up (and always experimenting), you’ll also be involved in other aspects of the company such as product management, development and prototyping. We’re a small and agile company which means you’ll get experience in a wide variety of work.

One of our products, Theory Test Pro, has scaled to size that we require a dedicated expert to manage marketing activities. This new position would suit an entrepreneurial online producer or tech savvy marketing exec with a background in either publishing or the provision of software as a service (SaaS).

Responsibilities

Your broad responsibilities will include the following:

  • manage the marketing activities for our existing online products with a brief to grow sales
  • manage the P&L and budgets for our existing online products
  • maintain and expand partner relationships

Duties and Tasks

Here are some of the typical tasks that you’ll be doing in this role:

  • Campaign management
    • Develop the brief, plan and costs for delivering campaigns on time and budget
    • Work with agencies and suppliers to execute campaign
    • Measure campaign effectiveness and use new learnings to tune future campaigns
  • Marketing communications
    • Write compelling copy for use in products, marcoms, public relations, blog posts and newsletters
    • Attend industry related conferences and exhibitions
  • Product management
    • Manage product feature backlog and product feedback
    • Identify bugs and areas for improvement within existing products
    • Monitor industry developments and report emerging trends
  • Account management
    • Maintain relationships with key client accounts
    • Liaison with customer support team to ensure user satisfaction
    • Manage and develop partnerships with third parties

We also have new projects and products in development that you’d be involved in as the products mature and become ready for market.

Skills and experience

To do this job well, you must have all of the following essential skills and experience:

  • At least four years relevant marketing experience. You’ll have a solid background you’re ready to take the next step in your career.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Whether it’s a campaign slogan or a single recipient email, you can communicate effectively and get the job done.
  • Strong business sense and proven marketing track record. You know your way around a P&L, can smell what sells and can spot a flawed business case from miles away.
  • Excellent organisation, planning and problem solving skills are required to make sure that your campaigns run smoothly.
  • Experience in roles with autonomy and broad scope. We’re a supportive but specialised team. You’ll be the marketing expert and don’t need micromanaging.
  • Some awareness of web technologies such as HTML and CSS. You don’t need to be an expert but you can’t be afraid to get your hands dirty with this stuff. If you have a personal website, blog or online portfolio then it would be advantageous to highlight this in your application.

You would have an upper-hand over other candidates if you have any of the following desirable skills and experience. Make sure you clearly highlight them in your cover letter.

  • Experience in the motoring or driver training industry. Theory Test Pro is our biggest product, so having some market knowledge would be advantageous.
  • Specific experience planning, managing and measuring multi-channel campaigns. We have our own campaign processes but would benefit from someone already familiar with campaign management.
  • It would be advantageous if you had previous involvement in online publishing, software development, user experience, web design or testing projects. This is what we do a lot of the time. If you have experience doing this too then you’ll fit in to the team a lot quicker.
  • Any design experience using Adobe CreativeSuite or similar. Although we use external agencies for most of our creative work, it would be beneficial to have someone in house who has an eye for good visual design.

Hours and Environment

You would work a 10 to 6 day, five days a week. However, it’s possible that you might be asked to work overtime on short notice when we get really busy.

Our office is 5 mins walk from the brand new Hoxton Overground, about 15 minutes walk from Bethnal Green Underground or just over the bridge from Acton’s Lock on Regent’s Canal.
